This Sunday sees the world trailer premier for Len Wiseman’s modern adaptation of Total Recall in which Sony have released a 30 second promo to build the hype. And it looks pretty impressive.
Our hero Douglas Quaid will be portrayed by Colin Farrell (originally immortalised by Arnold Schwarzenegger) and sure enough he’s jumping off buildings, avoiding explosions and bad guys, banking flying cars and yes… there’s a scene with his top off. He just couldn’t help himself could he? Stylistically it’s very reminiscent from the original Paul Verhoeven’s classic from 1990 however shades of the Fifth Element, Minority Report and of course Bladerunner are evident.
Wiseman’s version will steer clear of the Mars backdrop and instead focus on the power struggle between two newly formed continents – Euroamerica (formerly USA) and New Shanghai (formerly China) where Quaid holds the key to a resolution in his lost memories. Helping him search is Melina, played by Jessica Biel, however the resistance comes in the shape of Lori, played by Kate Beckinsale.
