The Academy Award winning actor Jean Dujardin is bringing french cinema to the world. Looking a little different without his George Valentine moustache, Dujardin stars in Les Infidèles (The Players), a film about adultery. The film is a compilation of vignettes from seven different directors including The Artist director Michel Hazanavicius and Pour Elle’s Fred Cavaye. All the vignettes focuses on the theme of infidelity.
The Players’ posters sparked controversy in France for being sexist. One poster featured Dujardin in a compromising position between a woman’s legs and the caption “I’m going to a meeting” and another poster featuring co-star Gilles Lellouche with a mobile phone and a lady’s head again in a compromising position all under the caption “It’s going to cut out, I’m going into a tunnel”. Despite the scandal, the film sold 1.08 million tickets during its first week of release.
There’s no release date announced for the UK yet but the Oscar success of Dujardin and The Artist will help boost it’s profile and hopefully more people will get the chance to see it. Take a look at the NSFW trailer above. If you’re one of the many folk who watched The Artist and thought “Oh, arn’t they a charming lot” will probably have your world view dramatically changed and be scarred for life.
