Cannes Film Festival Official Selection Announced
Cannes announced this year’s line up in a press conference in Paris. Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom will open the festival as previously announced and it will also play in competition. David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis accidentally released a trailer with “Cannes Official Selection” emblazoned on it before the selection was actually announced.
Twilight fans will be happy that both Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart both have films competing for the Palme d’Or with David Cronenberg’s adaptation of Don DeLillo’s Cosmoplis and Walter Salles’ On the Road. John Hillcoat’s Lawless is also selected and stars Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain and Guy Pearce. All of the directors for this year’s competition are male.
Closing this year’s festival will be the late Claude Miller’sTherese D, starring Audrey Tautou.
