Oscars what? We’re more interested in The Flixies, the Awards celebrating the best of online viewing. Newly launched by Netflix this year, The Flixies will let the public vote on who they love in TV and Film

Voting ends on Sunday 10th March 2013 and is open to both Netflix Members and Non-members to cast their votes online. The Flixies are designed to celebrate the new viewing habits of today’s entertainment watchers. The Flixies are not the average awards show, but rather an online experience that enables fans all around the world, well, in the 41 countries Netflix is offered, to vote for their favourite TV shows and movies.

The categories reflect the more humorous nature of viewers. Netflix experts have grouped the nominated popular streaming titles into humorous award categories that reflect real-life viewing habits – e.g. “Best Tantrum Tamer” (for those with kids), “Best Hangover Cure” (for those on the mend), or “Best Marathon TV Show” (for those who tell themselves “ok just one more before bed”).

It is award ceremony season. With the glitzy BAFTA’s just gone and the glamorous, long-anticipated Oscars around the corner, how better to celebrate than to launch our very own awards here at Netflix?

Gone are the predictable ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Picture’ categories. Gone is the members only voting… feel a little bit swanky whilst voting for the Flixies at home in your PJ’s.

Voting is open and people are encouraged to vote as many times as they like. It’s not exclusive either…non-Netflix members can also make their voices heard. The shortlistees, the top three winners in each Flixies category will be revealed on Monday, March 11th. Better still, visitors will also be able to suggest new viewing categories based on how they personally watch titles on Netflix for inclusion in future Flixies.
