Academy Award nominated actress Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, The Lovely Bones and Hanna) has recently revealed her experience for auditioning the much-anticipated sequel to one of sci-fi’s biggest franchises, Star Wars. From the sound of things, the role seems to have a major part of the film;
“Yeah, I did [audition for Star Wars Episode VII]… I don’t know whether I should have said that now! I mean, everyone did. Everyone has auditioned for it. So many people I know have gone in for the part I’ve gone in for, and guys who’ve gone in for a particular part, so I’d imagine J.J. is probably just scanning the earth to find the people that he needs.”
Even though the script is still kept under wraps, she also reveals she was auditioning the role was incredibly fun and involved wielding a lightsaber;
“But nobody has a clue what it’s about, and nobody’s read the script. So I’ve gone in and read for it, but I have to say, I think it’s the only time I’ve ever thought, ‘You know what? Even if I don’t get it, I had so much fun auditioning, pretending to take out a lightsaber – out of a bag, kind of inspect it and not know what it is. That was… that was great. A lightsaber! Star Wars!”
So of course the fans would make a lot of guesses of what role she was auditioning. Some say it was for Mara Jade Skywalker, Luke Skywalker’s wife and former servant to Emperor Palpatine. The problem is Saoirse is 19 and Mark Hamill is 62. . . . do I need to explain why that won’t work? Also, it would be a bit sudden to introduce an entirely new character like Mara Jade.
Who do you think Ronan (and many other actresses) were auditioning for? Leave your comments below and we’ll (eventually) find out if your predictions are correct.
