Seattle, Washington November 14, 2017
BestColleges.com, a leading provider of independent college rankings and higher education research and trend reports, announced today the best military-friendly colleges for 2018. The ranking highlights not for profit colleges and universities that offer online degree programs for today’s military and veteran students.
“Since the enactment of the post-9/11 G.I. Bill, thousands of military veterans and service members around the nation have received exclusive benefits, making it financially and physically more viable for them to gain a postsecondary education,” says Stephanie Snider, General Manager at BestColleges.com. “Today, many colleges and universities continue to make their programs more military-friendly by offering flexible academic pathways for these students to transition from the military into civilian life.”
The higher education institutions featured on the ranking qualified as “military-friendly” by offering specific U.S. military education programs and services for veterans, active-duty service members, and military dependents. Each school is a current member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) association while also providing Yellow Ribbon benefits through the G.I. Bill, fixed tuition discounts, transferable credits from military training programs, and on-campus military student organizations. The ranking considers factors like academic quality, affordability, and online programming.
Several prominent schools made this year’s list with the University of Florida ranked as the most military-friendly college in the nation. Additionally, North Carolina University at Raleigh, University of Central Florida, Texas A&M University, and Northeastern University are all featured in the top five schools on the list.
“Our military-friendly college ranking provides military personnel with a comprehensive academic resource that serves as a launching point to find the school that fits their needs,” added Snider. To complement the national ranking, BestColleges.com also offers several free resources to aid active military and veteran students in their college application process. This includes a college planning guide and financial aid overview, both of which provide information for all branches of the military.
