Douglas X. West was named a distinguished professor with Illinois State University and earned multiple grants through the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation and the American Chemical Society.

At the inception of his career, he gained valuable expertise through Upsala College, now defunct, where he worked as an instructor for one year in the mid-1960s. Throughout his career, he has also expanded upon his knowledge through myriad roles, including Director of University Honors Programs with Central Michigan University and the University of Washington.

Prior to beginning in education, Dr. West earned a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Whitman College and a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry from Washington State University. He maintained affiliation with the American Contract Bridge League, where he has held numerous board positions.

For his excellence in the field, Dr. West was named a distinguished professor with Illinois State University, earned multiple grants through the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation and the American Chemical Society, and received a fellowship through the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars. Additionally, he has been honored with features in such professional publications as Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education. Looking toward the future, Dr. West intends to continue enjoying his retirement on Washington State Coast as professor emeritus.
