SYOSSET, Long Island January 12, 2018
ERASE Racism strongly condemns the president’s hateful & racist remarks regarding Haiti, El Salvador, and countries in Africa. We stand in strong solidarity with immigrant communities of color. The United States and all citizens benefit from their numerous, invaluable contributions.
Long Island is an increasingly diverse region. We are home to many immigrant communities.
For 17 years, ERASE Racism has documented, exposed, and taken action against racism, discrimination, and hate. We are well equipped to identify structural racism and its many forms and manifestations. Let there be no doubt that the president’s comments are not just xenophobic and anti-immigrant, but racist.
We urge all people of good will – especially those with a public voice – to not only oppose the president’s remarks but let our immigrant neighbors and citizens know that they are supported and their contributions are valued.
About ERASE Racism: ERASE Racism is a regional organization that leads public policy advocacy campaigns and related programmatic initiatives to promote racial equity in areas such as housing and public school education. It engages in a variety of research, education, community organizing, and policy advocacy to identify and address institutional and structural racism, primarily on Long Island. ERASE Racism's goal is transformed, integrated communities in which no-one is limited by race or ethnicity.
